Innocence

The buttery sun runs down the wall
and pools on the bed where we lie
sticky in the sheets.  I see the china pitcher
on the washstand and it looks fragile
and innocent as eggshell. You look at me
with eyes the color of maple syrup, and oh,
how I wish I could love you.
